Independence Day can be a bit of a fashion puzzle. Do you wear clothing with flags all over it? Find a dress made out of a flag? Do you drape a flag over your shoulders? Wear a neutral outfit and carry a flag? How do you show your patriotism and still look chic at the same time?
This year to help simplify your decision, we’ve got a fashion guide and inspiration photos to help you solve the patriotic puzzle.
The idea is to take a few patriotic elements and pair them with fashionable pieces, which will keep you looking festive and evoke the idea of Americana without being too cheesy or over the top. Here are some different options to try that can fit any style!

Stripes

Even subtle stripes are a great way to evoke the American flag without actually wearing it. You could choose a striped top or pants, a striped jumper, or go big and wear stripe on stripe separates!

Romper over a swimsuit

If you’re headed to a pool party or the beach, there’s no need to change your whole outfit when you want to swim! Just wear a cute romper over your swimsuit and you’ll be good to go.

Denim

There is nothing more American than denim! Blue jeans were invented in San Francisco in 1873 by the Levi Strauss company, and we haven’t stopped wearing them since! For an all-American look that isn’t too obvious on Independence Day, try a chambray shirt with a pencil skirt or jeans, or go with a chambray minidress.

Pops of red

Red is such a bold color, and it will automatically bring a little independence into your look. You can go for a red shoe or wallet to complement your outfit, or go all red with a romper!

Bright whites

If you’re into tempting fate at the barbecue, try some crisp & clean summer whites. It’ll be a breath of fresh air for you and everyone who sees you!

Overalls and statement top

Overalls are such a comfortable summer staple. Try traditional overalls with a top that makes a statement like this lace-up tank, or go for a girly silhouette and wear a jumper with a cute crop top.

Bold Prints

A busy print is reminiscent of the stars and stripes, especially when it’s a cobalt blue paired with stark white. Go for a comfortable pair of jogger-inspired pants and a crop top. You can add a red accent to a non-patriotic print, and you’ve got a put-together red, white AND blue outfit.

I hope you're inspired to put together a chic outfit for your Fourth festivities! Stop by FreeStyle to put together any of these outfits for less. We hope to see you soon!

The fourth of July is probably the most important holiday that we celebrate. For us, Americans, fourth of July symbolize our independence. It is important to us because it is the time when we were hailed as the land of the free. Being free is being able to do things without having to fear whether someone will take you to jail for it. Being free is no longer living in the dark and in the shadows. The fourth of July is about how we united as one and take what is ours.
