It seems that corsets are making an appearance in 2016 street style in an interesting new way.
Though it was first used as a sort of chauvinistic restrictive shapewear garment and then exclusively as a seductive boudoir staple, the corset has evolved into an empowering in-your-face ornamental accessory that speaks to boldness, strength and femininity; in essence, the corset used to be about men, but now it is all about women.
The modern corset is out in the open; more a riff on a belt than on underwear. It’s meant to be seen as a fashion accessory, not as a sex appeal statement. As far as implementing it into your outfit it is still a serious statement, though, and I tend to doubt that the corset trend will be for everyone - It seems like it might be a love it or hate it kind of thing. Can you get behind the message of the current corset, and would you work one into your wardrobe?
Here is some inspiration on how to give the trend a try!
