There’s no doubt that sometimes it’s so incredibly hot outside that the thought of actually putting on clothing sounds unbearable. The simplist and easiest way to update your style is with statement accessories. In the summer, when we want to wear as little as possible updating our accessory collection is the quickest way to take an outfit from dull to exciting. MY advice is to keep your outfit simple and breathable. Doing so will make any excruciatingly hot summer day more bearable.
Bucket bags or woven bags are a super trendy way to carry your things and update your summer style. I try to stay away from constantly using the same bag. Day to day I like to switch it up. (As long as I don’t leave my debit card in my previous handbag, which I have done time and time again).
Statement shoes. I whole-heartedly believe in a good statement shoe. Shoes can completely make, break, and change an entire outfit. PVC shoes or see through plastic shoes are completely trendy and an easy way to update your summer outift.
Sneakers have been all over the runways and all over instagram. “Dad” shoes or chunky sneakers have been prevelent in the fashion industry for the past couple of seasons. Comfortable, casual, and trendy? Sign us up. Summer booties are name I’ve given to my winter booties that haven’t seen the light of day. I wear my booties all year round. Ankles boots, booties (sock or mid-calf), or even knee high boots were spotted on the runway this spring/summer season.
If your favorite summer accessory isn’t listed below, Comment below and let us know how you look cool when it’s hot outside!
If you’re the type of person who thinks wearing all black is the only way to look uniform.. I am talking to you, but mostly directing this to myself. I live in monochromatic looks all year round. Whether it’s wearing all white, all black, or pulling out a Justin and Britney full denim look, circa 2001 (NEVER FORGET). Why does the thought of wearing actual color, bring fear into my heart? If you’re a 90’s kid like me, you were raised with Lisa Frank binders, Barbie pink, and Mr. Sketch rainbow scented markers. So now as adults, are we opting for muted and natural tones as a go to look? Could it be that we are still basking in Yeezy seasons 1-5? Or maybe we’ve been trained to not wear color?
My dear kindred neutral clothes wearing spirits, It’s time for a change. Life is to short too dress like we’re Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice everyday. The world is changing and our closets need to change as well. I’m still going to dress in monochromatic looks, however I’m going to try and make an effort to make these looks colorful. Millenials have their own shade of pink and it’s time to embrace that.
I’m challenging all of our Freestyle readers to add some color into your closets. Whether it’s a statement shoe, a handbag, or a full look, don’t be afraid. So readers, wish me luck with my new colorful endevours and when you get a chance, show us your full monochrome Freestyle looks. Don’t forget to tag us in your #freestylefind!
The holidays are officially over, and for most of us, we have some leftover sparkly, sequined items hanging up in our closet. It’s tradition to go out and buy a new outfit to ring in the new year; however, that outfit will likely never see the light of day again after the celebrations are all over. Seems like a waste to buy such a fabulous outfit but only get to wear it one time! So the question is: How do you wear a holiday outfit long after the holiday season is over?
Lucky for you, metallics, silk, and velvet textiles are trending this spring. Which means wearing that party outfit into the warmer months isn’t so crazy or so tricky after all. Here are some tips and tricks for giving your holiday wardrobe items a spring-y update:

It's that time of year again! The holidays are just around the corner and those party invites will soon be flooding in your inbox. Don't let a closet dilemma keep you from partaking in the festivities. Just follow our simple guidelines to a complete party-ready look and you'll be out the door and ready to celebrate in no time!
The key to pulling off any look is to feel confident and comfortable while you're wearing it! It's chilly out this time of year, so layering up with tights and easy-to-remove pieces, like fuzzy sweaters, fur coats, and knit scarves will keep you warm when those temperatures drop, without sacrificing style.
Incorporating luxe fabrics, such as velvet, satin, or faux fur, will elevate your party look and make you feel elegant and fancy no matter where or how you celebrate!
The holidays are the perfect time of year to experiment with fun and sparkly details like rhinestones, sequins, or glitter! Stand out from the crowd and shine on!
Turtlenecks have a very retro vibe, and until recently have been fashion taboo. They've come back around, though, and you can find them in fast fashion stores and on style icons. When you’re wearing a turtleneck, the way to make your outfits feel current is all in the layering. Choose trendy but neutral pieces to put together with your turtlenecks to help them be the focus of your outfit - this way it will look intentional instead of like an afterthought. Try layering with intimate pieces like bralettes for that edgy lingerie look, or pair with destroyed denim or mom jeans for something more simple.
It's time to break out the outerwear! We love a good structured statement coat. For your outerwear to be a statement coat, it doesn't have to be a big or loud or crazy one - it's all in the kind of statement you're trying to make.
A well-fitting tailored grey coat transforms this camisole and jeans into a finished outfit.
A beautiful camel-colored coat complements the warm tones of both these outfit perfectly.
What's your statement? Big & bold, polished & minimal, or somewhere in between?
Floral prints and designs were one of the prominent themes in the Fall 2016 Couture Collections on the runway. Interested in how you can incorporate florals into your outfits without making them feel too summer? Here are a few tips on how to wear floral prints as the weather cools down!
A great way to make sure your outfit is appropriate for the chillier season is to layer up! Choose a neutral turtleneck to go under your florals and a beautiful coat or jacket to go on top, and no one will mistake your outfit for one that’s left over from the summer months.
Going for a darker color scheme behind your floral pieces will differentiate them from your brightly colored summer florals. Try to keep them in the brown palette or choose more muted colors.
A current embroidery job on a jacket or pair of jeans is a great way to incorporate florals into your fall wardrobe!
If your style is delicate and feminine, don’t throw it out or cover it up based on the weather! Just make a few fashion adjustments, and florals will work for you in any season.
Our new favorite accessory is the structured bag! Forget slouchy hobos and spring for something more chic - the polished air of a structured bag will lend sophistication to your look and elevate any outfit from dresses to boyfriend jeans. Another winning trait of the structured bag is you can choose one in any size. No matter what your purse needs are, you can find one that works for your lifestyle! Here are a few inspiration outfits with structured bags as their finishing touch.

We’ve been seeing chokers in so many different renditions all over the place, and we are not mad about it at all. It’s an accessory that’s so easy to throw on and forget about, and it does double duty by both remaining neutral and at the same time elevating your outfit. Chokers evoke the regal feeling of European royalty in the 18th and 19th century, when they first found their foothold in the fashion world.
Whether your style is minimalist or ornate, you can find a choker that fits you perfectly. Try a thin leather choker for a classy accessory with some edge, or pair a thick one with an off-the-shoulder top to show off your artistic eye for parallel lines. Choosing one in a color that coordinates with your outfit can give your look that “fully finished” feel - it can be just the extra intentionality and visual interest you need.
The choker is back in force. We don’t feel shy about it, and neither should you. Get one for every day of the week! We’re behind you 100%.
